What should you expect on your first visit? Prior to your first visit, we ask that you visit our website and fill out the new patient paperwork. This paperwork will be saved to our system. On your first visit, we request that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. There will be a few additional forms that we will need to go over with you that will include your insurance information. Once we have completed all of the documentation, the doctor will take you back for your initial examination. You will be treated immediately after the exam. The examination findings will determine which tools and techniques will be needed to restore the function in your body that has caused your pain. These tools and techniques may include soft tissue treatment (Active Release Techniques, Graston, Cupping), chiropractic manipulation, rehabilitation exercises, functional taping, and other therapeutic modalities.
What should you expect during your introduction and examination? During the introduction, the we will explain our approach to determining the cause of your pain. A functional movement based exam will be performed to determine the cause of your dysfunction. The examination will also include orthopedics, a neurologic assessment and a soft tissue assessment. After we have gathered all of the information, we will go over all of the findings and discuss the tools and steps that are necessary to get you out of pain and functioning properly in the shortest amount of time.
What should I bring/wear to my first appointment? One of our main tools for Soft Tissue injuries is called Active Release Techniques. When we are performing this technique, it is important for our patients to be able to move through a full range of motion. It is recommended that you wear loose comfortable clothes to your session. If you have an injury to the hip, knee, or lower leg, we recommend you wear shorts. Those individuals with shoulder pain should wear a loose t-shirt or tank top.
How much time do I need for my first visit? During your first visit, it is important for us to determine the exact cause of your pain. It is MOST important that you are educated on how to manage your injury, specifically on what to do and what NOT to do so that you are able to get results in the shortest amount of time. With this spirit in mind, you can expect your first visit to be approximately 60-90 minutes depending on the severity and complexity of your case.
How many visits will it take for me to see results? You will see and feel improvement on your first visit. During the healing process, we usually see improvement in your function first. As you are able to move and function properly your body is able to create a better environment to heal and recover. As it does this, your pain levels will decrease. During the first 6 sessions, we expect 50-75% improvement and many times we see 100% resolution. There are four keys components that effect your ability to heal and recover: age, activity level, if you are diabetic, and if you are a smoker. All four of these factors affect your circulation in your body. The younger and more active you are, the quicker you will recover. If you are older, diabetic, or a smoker, this will slow down your recovery.
